Small Web Potluck 2026!

What’s happening: The Small Web Potluck is a virtual event open to all creators, webmasters, and hobbyists in the small/indie web space. Make a dish, post it online, and connect with one another over delicious food! Need some inspiration? View last year’s potluck!

Event Dates: August 2 – September 6, 2026

CO-HOST: *shy laughter* Hi guys, this year I was graced by the honour to co-host the potluck together with my friend and the father of Neocities potlucks, Skep! Of course I said yes, seeing how much I enjoyed last year's potluck :) I am super excited to be a part of this and can't wait to see everyone's dishes. Let the cooking begin!

New for this year: Last year's potluck was a huge success :) This year we made some changes:

  • Your dish will be posted on your own website (honestly Skep should have done it this way from the beginning.......).
  • Instead of a reveal date, the potluck runs for one month
  • We added an optional ~theme~

Optional sign-up

It's possible to sign up (and part of the fun), but not required. If you don't want to, feel free to skip this step.

As co-host this year, I'm in charge of the sign-up sheet. If you’d like to be added, please email me with your preferred name and the name of the dish you plan to make so I can add you! See the contact information below for my email address.

Participation requirements

Step 1. Get cooking! Make a dish, it doesn't matter what it is. But, a personal dish is always fun. Maybe an old favorite, a traditional family recipe, or something you’ve been dying to try but haven’t found an excuse for yet.

Step 2. Post it to your site! You can give it its own page, or make it a blog post, or whatever works for you (though it helps if it has its own URL so we can link to it). Please include the following:

  • The name of the dish
  • A photo (with descriptive alt text)
  • The main ingredients
  • A link to the potluck event page

Feel free to include anything else about the dish that you want to share, like a memory, the recipe, or how it turned out.

Step 3. Once you post your dish to your site, please send me the URL (contact information here) so we can add you to the event page!

Theme

In honor of Skep and Myrtletribe joining forces, this year’s theme is the color yellow! Try to include a bit of yellow in your finished dish, whether it's included in the food, the dishware, or what have you. Get creative! It's entirely optional, but encouraged :) Anddd there is of course a small reward for those who follow the theme...

Earn badges

The 2026 Potluck rewards two badges to people who go above and beyond with their potluck dish! When you earn a badge, feel free to boast by adding it to your site ;) The following badges can be earned this year:

  • Early Bird: Add your name to the sign-up sheet OR post your dish by August 16th
  • Splash of Yellow: Include something yellow in the final dish

Keep checking back

The Event page is the hub for this event, and we’ll update it regularly as you make and share your creations. This page will include the sites and dishes of all participants in one place for easy browsing, make sure to check back often! We're looking forward to seeing your dishes, and wish you a fun time in the kitchen :) For questions, please check the FAQ below, or reach out to either Skep or me.

Questions & Answers

Q: Am I invited?
A: If you have a website, you’re invited!

Q: Can I share this link?
A: Please do!

Q: How big a dish should I make?
A: If any portion of it will not be eaten and end up thrown away, it’s too big.

Q: Can I just send you a picture of food I was already going to make for something else?
A: Although a bit against the spirit of the thing, we have literally no way of knowing if you do this!

Q: I put my name on the sign-up sheet, but actually I don’t think I can commit, or I decided to make something different. Will you be mad at me?
A: Nope, not at all!

Q: Can I just bring cups or chips or something?
A: Of course you can’t, why would you even sign up for this goofy little thing if you’re just going to half-ass it with chips.

Q: But I can’t cook.
A: Yes you can! (unless you mean you are physically incapable of cooking for any reason, in which case, fair. We will accept a reasonable alternative with a good story behind it). If you haven’t done any cooking before, now’s a good time to try something new!

Q: My website is intentionally text-only and doesn’t use pictures. Do I need a picture?
A: You don’t need to add a picture, but please email one to us so we can include it on the event page.
